Billyground, Oct 27: An ASI ranked officer of Andaman and Nicobar Police have been attacked by a Thoratang resident with a Dha (Machete) last night.
According to information the intention of the attacker was to grievously injure the police officer but because of sheer luck the officer survived with minor injury on his thigh.
As per details, last night following a call from Thoratang Village of Middle Andaman about domestic violence in one house, a team of police under the leadership of ASI Amit Kumar reached the house of Arun, a habitual drinker.
There was report that he was beating his wife but when the ASI knocked the doors of the house no one opened it.
When the police officer pushed the door open and tried to enter inside the house, Mr Arun, who was ready with a Dha, attacked the police officer.
When other police jawans came for help the accused ran away from the place and took shelter in the house of pradhan of Swadesh Nagar by telling lies.
When police team reached the house of Pradhan Swadesh Nagar, Arun jumped from the window of Pradhan’s house and escaped.
Later with the help of Pradhan, residents of the area brought Arun to Police Station early in the morning, where he was arrested immediately.
The injured police officer was taken to hospital, where he got three stitches. Further inquiry is on in this regard.
