Port Blair, Oct 18: The Traffic Unit of the Andaman and Nicobar Police has made elaborate arrangements to prevent traffic chaos during the Durga Puja celebrations this year. With single-lane roads in the city and burgeoning vehicular population, massive traffic jams become the order of the day during the Durga Puja celebration.
The situation worsens to an extent that many people even desist to venture out of their homes during the puja. However, the Traffic Unit has made detailed arrangements this year for the benefit of the citizens.
Speaking to Channel One News recently, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic said that Durga Puja is celebrated in about 18 Pandals in the city and to prevent traffic disorder during the celebration a meeting of police officers and members of Puja Organizing Committees was held under the chairmanship of the Superintendent of Police recently.
“The Puja Committees have been requested to deploy volunteers at the Puja Pandals to assist traffic cops to regulate traffic movement. Besides arrangements have also been made to facilitate parking of vehicles so avoid any convenience to people,” The Traffic Dy.SP added.
