Rangat, Oct 14: In response to the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s call to provide effective governance at the grass roots level and to ensure a responsive and people friendly administration, the Lt. Governor had directed the Chief Secretary and other Secretaries/Directors to undertake a tour of North & Middle Andaman District to review the progress of development works and for redressal of public grievances.
After holding meetings with PRI representatives, HoDs of different Departments and the general public at Diglipur and Mayabunder, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anand Prakash held a similar meeting in the auditorium of Zilla Parishad, Rangat this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary urged the newly elected PRI representatives and the people present on the occasion to make best use of the programme and bring to light their grievances which will be addressed by the concerned Secretaries/HoDs. He also welcomed suggestions pertaining to developmental works, even personal grievances of the people, and reiterated the commitment and support of A&N Administration in the overall development of North & Middle Andaman.
Addressing the gathering, the Adhyaksha, ZP N&M Andaman, Smt Prabhawati Biswas enlightened the newly elected PRI members of their responsibilities and commitments for the development of their respective constituencies. She sensitized the gathering about mission ‘Swachh Gramin’ and urged the PRIs to carry out awareness programmes related to maintenance of healthy & hygienic environment and educate people about the ill-effects of open defecation. She also highlighted about the issue pertaining to health, rural development, forest related issues and beautification of Rangat Tehsil. The ZP Adhyaksha urged that a Degree College be set up at Middle Andaman for the students of the area.
In his address, the Secretary (Home/RD/ /PRIs), Shri N. K. Sharma said the sole purpose of the three-day meeting is to provide effective governance at the grass roots levels and to address the problems and issues of the people and its redressal in a time bound manner, as directed by the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands. He also enlightened the newly elected PRI representatives of their rights & responsibilities in discharging their duties and urged them to work sincerely and utilize the fund allocated in the right manner for the welfare of the society. Matters pertaining to various issues highlighted during the meeting have been noted by the concerned HoDs and a logical suggestion will be putforth to solve the issues, he said.
The PCCF (WL), Shri G.N.Sinha, Secretary (Home, RD/PRIs), Shri N. K. Sharma, Secretary, (Edn), Smt Tanvi Garg, Secretary (Agri/ AH/VS, Fisheries), Smt Menaka and the Dy. Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Shri Arava Gopi Krishna were also present on the occasion.
Earlier on the way from Mayabunder to Rangat, the Chief Secretary inspected rural road at Shanti Basti, Nimbutala. He also interacted with a group of vendors on the occasion.
The Assistant Commissioner, Rangat, Shri S. S. Rawat welcomed the gathering and informed about the objective of the meeting.
