Port Blair, Oct 06: A Hodi, the traditional craft of Nicobari Tribals, today overturned near Tapoming village of Car Nicobar Islands this afternoon. Luckily all five people onboard were rescued by other small motor boats.
According to reports five people, Mr. Lucus, Mr.Abaris, Mr.Chrismas, Mr.Joseph and Mr. Micheal of nearby villages had gone for fishing in a Hodi this morning. But while fishing they ventured into the deep sea and soon their Hodi was overturned by a mighty wave.
Luckily in Car Nicobar Island, where there was no BSNL tower since last three days, from today there was mobile network and one of the person onboard could make a call for help.
The matter soon reached to State Disaster Control Room and the Car Nicobar Police Station.
After getting the information, the DC and SP of Car Nicobar reached to the spot by a vessel MV Rani Changa but by that time the people in distress were saved by other Nicobari youths using motor boats.
The rescue operation was coordinated by State Disaster Control Room. The PS Car Nicobar, AC Car Nicobar Mr. Akil Kumar, and two officers from Indian Air Force Mr. Vinod and Mr. Sharma played a major role in this rescue operation.
