Port Blair, Sep 16: It was reported that two persons namely Shri Kishen Kanta Bepari, aged 47 yrs, R/o Pinakinagar and Shri Ananda Sarkar aged 48 yrs, R/o Panchawati, died after consuming illicit/spurious liquor at Billiground.
A preliminary investigation done by the Police indicates that both the persons died due to consumption of illicit/spurious liquor.
The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), has condoled the death of the two persons and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
He has directed the Police Department to expedite the investigation so as to find out the cause of death and initiate appropriate action against the culprits. He has also directed the District Administration to ensure that no illicit/spurious liquor is sold in the District. Gratuitous relief will be given as per rules.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that two more persons have been admitted by PHC Billyground with similar symptoms today. Both of them had consumed liquor this morning. They are under special care at PHC Billyground.
Meanwhile, the DC and SP of N & M Andaman visited both the patients, Mr. Gour Goldy, a resident of Badam Nallah and Mr. Major this morning.
