Havelock, Sept 13: The enquiry regarding death of Havelock youth Amit Das on friday early morning, which has triggered a massive protest in Havelock Island has now been handed over to Crime Investigation Department (CID)
According to sources the CID unit has already started investigation into this matter and after recording statements of witnesses, public and relatives the CID unit will prepare a complete report.
Meanwhile it has been learnt that during the Havelock protest as many as 19 policemen including the SP of South Andaman, Mr Sibesh Singh and Dy.S.P Havelock Mr. B Saigal had sustained injuries. Some villagers also sustained injuries, when police department got orders of Lathi Charge.
It has been learnt that during the protest a lot of police vehicles were damaged by the protesters not only this protesters used petrol bombs, empty bottles and pelted stones on police.
Havelock Island is always known for such violent protests on serious issues earlier fire station incharge was thrashed by a mob after a fire incident, which resulted in 30 such attackers by CCS team.
Many believe that forthcoming election was also one of the main reason behind such protest as it is learnt that a few political leaders had played a major role in instigating the family members for such protest.
The issue started escalating since morning 8.30 am but the crowd was kept under control by local police team but only after post mortem examination at night and after it was learnt by the public that Amit Das died due to Head Injuries, the matter went out of control.
