Port Blair, Sept 11: Spice Jet flight SG 251/261 operated on Kolkata-Port Blair-Kolkata sector carried out a successful night landing at Port Blair airport on 11th September, 2015.
This has become a reality under the dynamic leadership of the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands, Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh (Retd.) and the concerted follow-up by A & N Administration with the support of Ministry of Civil Aviation, DGCA, A&N Command, Airports Authority of India and Air India, which conducted the safety risk assessment for night landing at Port Blair.
The Lt. Governor since taking over the reins of A & N Islands had been constantly emphasizing the need for opening Port Blair airport for night flights as being very important for the growth and development of these Islands and also for exigencies, which has finally, bore fruit when the Spice Jet flight connecting Delhi-Kolkata-Port Blair landed at Port Blair at 1800 hrs and departed for Kolkata at 1830 hrs.
This was a proving flight by Spice Jet for night operation in order to lead way for commencement of scheduled night operations at Port Blair airport for domestic as well as international flights.
