Port Blair, Apr 20: The strange work culture of ANIIDCO to close down the Junglighat Petrol Pump for public during the busiest hour for nearly an hour everyday has become a constant source of discomfort for Port Blairians.
“During busy hours people usually go for refueling only when they need fuel badly but after reaching at ANIIDCO petrol pump with fuel tank empty, people often find the petrol pump closed. This happen almost every-day during afternoon hours and often in evening hours too,” complained a Port Blairian.
Staff of ANIIDCO petrol pumps close down the pump for refilling of underground tanks and those who reaches the petrol pump with and empty tank have to wait for nearly one hour.
When contacted, Mr. Mohammed Parvez told Andaman Sheekha that as per norms they are bound to stop refueling of vehicles at the time of refilling of underground tanks.
“We don’t decide the timing of refilling and the timing of arrival of fuel tanks, its IOC to decide. We are just operating the petrol pump. Delivery can be done at the time of office hours only. Availability of IOC oil tankers (Trucks) also matters,” Mr. Parvez added.
However, it is learnt that IOC is ready to sent fuel tankers during early morning or late evening hours but for that ANIIDCO Staffs will have to work extra hours.
“We have also taken up the matter with IOC earlier. We are going to make a dry way in the pump which will result in the fast movement of the vehicles. If we get additional storage capacity then this problem will be solved but there is a shortage of space. Two new petrol pumps are coming up at Dairy Farm and Chouldary which will ease the pressure,” he said.
However, when enquired it is leant that other petrol pumps in city have addition fuel tanks and for this they don’t require to close down the petrol pump any time, it seems that this is high time for ANIIDCO to plan for some extra storage at Junglighat Petrol Pump.
