Port Blair, Sept 03: The Additional Divisional Magistrate of South Andaman, Mr Arun Gupta has assured action against the candidate of Panchayat Samiti Member from Collinpur Constituency as per the election rules.
A case was recently registered at police station Aberdeen against Mr. Sanjay Chakarborty, a resident of Manpur, who is also a contesting candidate of Panchayat Samiti Member from Collinpur Constituency in the ensuing Panchayat Election 2015, for carrying illicit liquor in a car driven by him.
Appropriate action was also initiated against Hotel Raj Praksh of Port Blair for allegedly supplying the liquor consignment to the candidate.
Talking to Channel One News Mr. Gupta today said that if the charges are found correct then the candidature of the candidate and the bar license of the said bar will be cancelled.
“The final action can’t be taken in this case until and unless police completes the investigation in this regard. He said a show cause notice has already been served to the said bar and all the bars and liquor outlets of ANIIDCO have already been directed to submit details of daily sale of liquor to the us,” Mr. Gupta added.
The Additional District Magistrate assured that the investigation will complete before the elections.
The polling for the Municipal and Panchayat elections in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be held on September 20, 2015.
