Port Blair, Aug 23: The Health Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is all set to conduct a detailed survey regarding alcohol and drug addiction cases, which has become a major reason behind the increase in the number of suicides in these Islands.
According to details the survey will be conducted with the help of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Integrated Development Corporation (ANIIDCO) using the funds available under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) sector.
Talking to media at Port Blair the Deputy Director of Andaman’s Health Department Dr. Abhijit Ray today said that the survey will be conducted to understand the pattern and also to free Andaman and Nicobar Islands from the curse of alcohol and drug addiction cases.
“There are many reasons behind increase in number of cases of suicide in these Islands but alcohol and drug addiction is believed to the prime reason. The survey will begin soon,” Dr. Ray added.
According to reports the Health Department and the ANIIDCO will finally prepare a project after this survey and future action will be taken based on this project.
Recently a survey conducted in National Level showed that Andaman & Nicobar Islands stands second in the number suicide cases in India.
