Port Blair, June 11: Lt Gen A.K. Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands visited Havelock Island on Monday(9.6.2015) and reviewed the progress of the ongoing works of different Departments, such as Forest, Police, APWD and Electricity, with the local officers. Directions were given to the PWD engineers to expedite work on the second phase of the road widening programme of the state highway. He also went around the Dolphin Resort and reviewed the state of maintenance.
He also visited the Radhanagar beach along with the DSP and DFO. He expressed his displeasure over littering on the beach and directed DFO and Forest Officials to ensure proper cleanliness of the Radhanagar beach, which happens to be one of the most visited destinations in the islands. He asked the DFO to follow up with the Panchayat Officials in this regard as it is their prime responsibility.
Many complaints were received about frequent power cuts and severe voltage fluctuations in Electric supply. On this, Hon’ble Lt. Governor summoned Secretary (Power) and officiating Superintending Engineer (Electricity) to Havelock next morning and directed them to look into this problem. Directions were issued to expedite installation of the additional DG sets to augment the power supply and expedite action for renewable energy projects.
