Port Blair, Mar 28: All speculations over the death of seaman, P Gopi ended with arrest of two persons today. Death of Gopi had raised many doubts. While family members of Gopi were demanding a probe into his death, police department was terming the incident as an accident.
Later when family members of Gopi lodged complaint suspecting murder, police began investigating and soon the case was cracked by PS Aberdeen. The case was solved by A & N Police in a very professional manner.
According to reports, detailed study of the phone details help police to crack the case, in which wife of P Gopi had actually hatched the conspiracy to kill her husband with the help of her paramour one Venkat Durga Prasad (24) r/o Shore Point, a Seaman in TCI Seaways.
On Tuesday evening three persons were detained by police from Bamblooflat area and Gopi’s wife Sirisha (27), working as DRM in PBMC, was also detained from Port Blair. After thorough interrogation, Venkat and Sirisha accepted their crime.
According to police on the day of Murder, Gopi’s wife Sirisha had tipped Venkat about Gopi’s location, after which Venkat reportedly took a thick Steel Rod (used for bending steel rods) and a bike, from one of his friend and reached the Mazaar Pahar Road. Reports suggest that Venkat had followed the decesead’s movements for three days prior to the day of murder.
According to the plan, as Gopi went out for his evening walk Sirisha informed Venkat who followed him from Netaji Stadium towards Mazar Pahad and waited at a dark place for his return. When Gopi returned, Vankat had hit Gopi hard several times with the steel rod from back and escaped from the scene. Satisfied that he would not survive, Venkat headed for his house in Shore Point and on the way dropped the murdered weapon into the sea, opposite to Suryachakra Power Plant and washed his cloths in washing machine.
Accused Venkat and Sirisha have confessed that they had known each other since 2004 while studying in a computer institute at Haddo. Later Sirisha got married to Gopi, a seaman working in DSS, and had a son too. Venkat again met Sirisha in 2011 and stated seeing each other. Venkat wanted Sirisha to live with him for which both hatched a plan to eliminate her husband.
However, till the last report poured in Andaman and Nicobar Police could not recover the murder weapon from the coastal area of Bambooflat because of mud and high tide. Divers of Marine Police were called to recover the murder weapon, which would be one of the key evidence for police. Now Police is planning to demand Police Remand for Venkat so that the murder weapon could be recovered.
Both accused persons have been arrested on Wednesday and shall be produced before the Hon’ble Court on Thursday. Andaman and Nicobar Police is also interrogating two other friends of Venkat to know that to how much extend they were involved in the conspiracy.
