Port Blair, May 16: The Bharatiya Janta Party Candidate, Bishnu Pada Ray won the Lok Sabha Elections from A & N Parliamentary Constituency by defeating his nearest rival, Kuldeep Rai Sharma of Indian National Congress, by 7,812 votes.
According to results declared by P Jawahar, the Returning Officer of A & N Parliamentary Constituency Ray got altogether 90,969 votes, while Sharma got 83,157 votes. Among 15 contestants Mr. Sanjay Meshack of Aam Admi Party, managed the third position, who got only 3,737 votes.
Addressing media persons soon after declaration of results, Ray expressed his sincere gratitude towards people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for electing him as Member of Parliament of Union Territory for the third time.
“I dedicate this win to people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I shall dedicate myself for overall development of A & N Islands, especially employment generation. Other than these welfare projects, which were pending due to UPA rules will be untaken again,” Ray to media persons at the vote counting venue.
63 years old Bishnu Pada Ray was first elected to 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 and again re-elected as Member of Parliament in 15th Lok Sabha in 2009.
