Port Blair, May 03: The 5th annual conference of Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) was held at Hotel TSG Grand, Dollygunj on 1st May, where in 52 delegates of Prosthodontic Society of Tamil Nadu State branch attended. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. S.K Paul, Director of Health Service, after lighting of the traditional lamp; welcome address was given by Dr. C. J Venkatakrishnan. Dr. S. K Paul, Director of Health Service in his address to the delegates said this kind of conference is not only beneficial to the dental fraternity but it also promotes tourism. He said he is looking forward in the near future if things can be worked out so that Prosthodontist can visit G.B Pant Hospital which will immensely benefit the islanders as we don’t have a prosthodontist in Andamans. A scientific session was held on “Maxillary sinus lift augmentation” by Dr.D.Sendilnathan, Reader, Department of Prosthodontics, S.R.M Dental College, Kattankolathur, Chennai and a lecture on “fabrication of somato prosthesis on non-dental applications” by Dr.Jothikumar kamalakanan, Reader, Department of Prosthodontics, Asan Memorial College, Chennai and by Dr. B.S.Kalarashmi, Professor & HOD, Asan Memorial Dental College, Chennai. Dr.Munirathnam Naidu, former Vice-Chancellor of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) were also present and he shared his valuable information to the delegates during the interactive session which was widely appreciated by one and all.
Dentists working in A & N Health department from Port Blair & and few private Dental Surgeons of Port Blair, Dr.Manoj, Dr Rachana, Dr Shanthi, Dr.Vinod, Dr.Parvez, Dr. Betty, Dr.Selvaraj, Dr.Behnaz & Dr.Dinesh attended the scientific session. The Dental Surgeons of Andamans expressed happiness as the event was held here, which gave them an opportunity to interact with specialists and exchange professional knowledge. Annual report was presented by Dr. Murugeshan, Secretary of Tamil Nadu state branch and vote of thanks by Dr.Venkat Prasad.
On the third day another scientific session on “Soft tissue management in a Prosthodonitc way” by Dr.M.Narasimhan of Tagore Dental College, Chennai. The entire event was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Dinesh, Dental Surgeon.
A patient form Middle Andaman came yesterday and had a root stump lodged in the maxillary sinus and was suffering for more than two months, he had decided to got to Chennai and on request Dr.S.Jimson Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who had accompanied the delegates did the surgery at Dinesh Dental Clinic and successfully removed the roots, another case of full mouth oral Rehabilitation and an implant case was also seen by prosthodontist. Way back in December 2004, Indian Prosthodontic Society wanted to conduct All India conference with 1500 delegates but due to lack of infrastructure was unable to conduct said Prof. Dr. Rangarajan, Immediate past president of IPS, & HOD of Prosthodontic Department, Venkateshwara Dental College, but now things have changed, with lot of development & better hotels.
