Car Nicobar, Nov 29: The teams of Car Nicobar-B, Territorial Army, Andaman Nicobar Police and Little Andaman have entered into Semifinals of the 20th Vice President of India Cup Football Tournament being played at Car Nicobar. In the last league match round played today at the Bishop John Richardson Stadium Tamaloo, the Strong Carnic B team thrashed Diglipur by 11-0, registering the biggest win of the Tournament so far. Mahayooken scored 8 goals alone and thus became the highest Scorer of the Tournament in the league round with an individual tally of 13 goals. Lot and Davis scored one goal each in the match.
The most awaited match between Territorial Army and the young boys of Sports Authority of India finished goalless. Both the teams tried hard and built threatening attacks but could not convert it into goals.
The SAI executed their plans effectively to prevent the most dangerous Player of TA, Manua to attack. Manua developed many attacks but could not penetrate the strong wall of defence of SAI. However due to having better goal average in the league round, the TA team found itself lucky to enter into the Semifinal.
The match played between Andaman Nicobar Police and the defending Champion Carnic-A was the most thrilling encounter of the day. Nicolas of Police team succeeded in scoring the lead goal in the first half but soon after Norbet of Carnic-A fired the equalizer. In the second half too tough contest was seen and Roberto Baggio of Police did not miss the Penalty kick chance and scored the winning goal. Both the teams struggled to dribble the ball effectively due to rain and wet field. Hundreds of Football fans turned up today to enjoy this match inspite of rain.
In the last match played at the Mus ground, the talented young Little Andaman team defeated Nancowry comfortably by 4-0 and secured their berth in the Semifinals. Monish scored hatrick for the winners.
In the first Semifinal tomorrow, Territorial Army will play against Little Andaman at 12.30 PM at BJR Stadium and in the second Semifinal AN Police will clash with Local Favourites Carnic –B at 2 PM at the same venue.
