Diglipur, Nov 27: An engine fitted boat of Bimal Hawlader S/o Vevekananda Hawlader bearing boat no. IND-AN-MN-MO-297, M.V.Bholanath from Banda Nallah 2, Elezabeth Bay of Diglipur has been reportedly stolen by Myanmarese Poachers at 11 PM on 18th November 2013.
Fishermen of Elizabeth Bay area suffer from such losses time and again; these fishermen are poor and solely dependent on fishing boats for their livelihood. In event of such theft, fishermen lose their lone source of income. Although these fishermen get preference in the selection process for construction & purchase of Motorized boats under UT plan scheme but fishermen of such economic status hardly afford to pay rest 50% amount needed to buy the boat.
A group of fishermen met the with the AFDO of Fisheries department and Asst. Commissioner of Diglipur recently and raised their concerns, during the meet they also stated that residing and fishing in Elezabeth Bay is not safer for fishermen as often Burmese enter the area. In absence of proper communication facilities and also due to lack of telephonic communication fishers fail to report it to Police or other concern department in time. A Similar incident took place last year where boat of Shri Krishna Das S/o Manoranjan Das being boat No. ANB_MV_MN/475 was stolen from same area.
