Port Blair, Nov 08: The Chakraborty Multi Speciality Hospitial, Dollygunj has carried out 25th Successful Permanent Pacemaker implanted, taking Health Care Sector of A & N Islands to a next level.
In a press release, Dr. Sudip Chakraborty, MBBS, MD (Medicine) today said that “never ever, we thought about starting offering the services of Permanent Pacemaker at Chakraborty Multi Speciality Hospitial, Dollygunj, Port Blair until we came to know that most patients who needs pacemaker for treatment, has to shell out about one lakh in airfare just to reach mainland as they need stretcher in aircraft. When we calculated the cost, we concluded that a basic model of pacemaker that too of a multinational reputed company can be implanted right here at A& N Islands, including 5 days post operative days stay at less than a lakh rupees.”
He added that pacemaker needs periodic electronic evaluation called pacemaker programming, which luckily the company under its corporate social responsibility has given CMSH one such programmer, so that simple but periodic programming can be done right here.
“Since 2011, 25 patients have undergone pacemaker implantation including some poor patients from recommendations of charitable organization like Sai Sansthan. Of course, they got it done on much discounted rate. The icing on the cake is a 102-year-old man, the oldest person in Asia to undergo pacemaker implantation making headlines in local newspaper and Bartaman newspaper of Kolkata. In fact, such is the interest that a reporter from a leading national newspaper is coming to interview him to know how he is faring, 2 years after the procedure now at the ripe age of 104,” Dr. Chakraborty added.
He said that its time to look for and utilize local medical infrastructure by Govt instead of referring patients to mainland at the drop of a hat for treatment not available at Govt. hospitals.
