Diglipur, Oct 20: Mr. Onit Panyong, Secretary of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration made an extensive field visit at Diglipur on 18th October 2013 along with Mr. M.A.Salam, the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Chandrashekar, Director of Fisheries and Mr. Vijay Kumar Assistant Director (Agri. Engg & FM) to look –over the ongoing agricultural and allied activities of the zone.
In the morning hours the team visited Kalipur village where they were very much impressed with the innovative technologies developed by Mr. Laxman Das, a farmer on Bee-Keeping, Vermi-composting and Plant Propagation. The Director of Agriculture suggested him to graft cashew seedlings using the scion available at cashew scion bank, Kalighat to fulfil the local demand of the farmers.
The team visited the recently inaugurated Fish Landing Centre at Durgapur village and interacted with the fishermen and ensured for early settlement of the proposed site for fishermen colony. During the visit at Durgapur, they inspected the field of Mr. Goutam Biswas, where the farmers raised the issue of non-availability of prawn & fish seed. Secretary assured to look into the matter. After this, the team inspected Cold Storage Unit, maintained by ANIIDCO. The Secretary urged to explore possibilities of utilizing the same unit for storing milk and other dairy products instead of constructing a new structure. They also inspected vegetable market and cold storage unit at Aerial Bay and interacted with farmers and vegetable sellers.
The dignitaries highly appreciated the ongoing activities of the Multi Purpose Farm, Keralapuram. They suggested planting of Bamboo seedlings to check soil erosion at Floriculture garden of V S Pally. Visiting V.S.Pally village the team inspected the field of Smti. P K Ramani Amma, involved in fish culture. They advocated to encourage farm based Eco Tourism.
Later on the team visited R.K.Gram village and inspected the location where the Pradhan R K Gram proposed to establish Integrated Agriculture Complex where all the activities of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal husbandry can be incorporated at a single site for which sufficient land is available. The Secretary asked to get the details of actual land position from revenue authority to proceed further.
At Madhupur village the team visited the field of Mr. Nirmal Biswas and observed the cultivation in Polyhouse and other scientific method adopted in agriculture. The team impressed with the progressive farmer and asked to encourage much more farmers to adopt such techniques.
They also visited the field of Shri Adir. Ch.Howlader, Poultry farmer, where they encouraged the efforts of the farmer for processing and selling quality poultry feed. At Madhupur village the team visited the field of Smti. Saraswati Paul and witnessed the women farmers engaged in apiculture. In Kalighat village they inspected activities of Spices Demonstration Farm & Cashew Scion bank managed by Agriculture department.
The team also interacted with Mr. Gouranga Dutta,Pramukh Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur and discussed various issues of farmer. They expressed satisfaction on the overall activities of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry carried out at Diglipur Zone.
