Port Blair, Oct 18: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd), A.K. Singh, today appreciated the collective efforts of the District Administration (N&M Andaman), PRI members and the people of North & Middle Andaman for their efforts in providing timely rescue and relief during the recent cyclonic flooding.
While touring different areas of North & Middle Andaman such as Kalsi, Betapur, Dharampur, Shantipur, Billyground, Swadesh Nagar and Tugapur today, the Lt Governor met people of different villages, who had suffered losses. He expressed his satisfaction that there was no loss of life, except two fishermen who are still missing. The Coast Guard and Police have been asked to review their search efforts. As per directions of the Lt Governor, the assessment for compensation has been completed and the compensation will be in the respective bank accounts by 25th of October, which is a record of timely action. This will become the norm in a transparent and responsive Administration. The Lt Governor has also asked the relevant Departments to look into the complaints raised by various people in a time bound manner. The Commissioner looking after Disaster Management has been asked to review the preparedness including stores/equipments which should be available at various places.
