Billyground, Oct 08: Heavy Rainfall today disrupted normal life in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Middle Andaman region is worst hit. Incessant rain today resulted in floods in many parts of Middle Andaman leaving hundreds of people stranded and forcing dozens and dozens of people to run away from home. Heavy rainfall also caused power cut and total black out in the region.
At Swadesh Nagar, nearly 200 students, including 95 girls and 35 teaching staffs were stranded at Swadesh Nagar School. Due to flooding they were unable to come out. Till night 7.30 pm all of them were stranded inside the school. They have been given something to eat from School Canteen but that was not sufficient.
However, at around 8.00 PM, the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, R Meneka and pradhan of Swadeshnagar anyhow managed to enter Swadesh Nagar School with students. 80 Students came out in the first batch from Swadesh Nagar School, whose parents reached the school. Till last report poured in other 120 were still waiting for help.
Six Students stayed back at Billyground SS School as their houses are flooded. Even their parents joined them in school. Altogether nearly 25 rain-hit families came to Billyground SS School to seek shelter. The Pradhan was Harinagar Panchayat Mr. Hrinmoy Roy arranged food for them.
At Secondary School Billyground all teachers decided to stay back in the school as their students were in the school. The Head Master first took this decision following which all teachers agreed. A noble gesture which gave lot of confidence to rain hit families. Similar situation was reported from Rangat and Mayabunder region. Even in Pahalgaon school some children were stranded.
