Port Blair, Oct 03: Diglipur Sub Division celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday to mark the occasion of the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi. The day started with Prabhat ferries by the school children who in the early morning at 6 ‘O clock brought out procession up to Subhash Gram bazaar with their school teachers.
The District administration under the leadership Asst. Commissioner Diglipur and CEO Zilla Parishad Dr. Vivek Kumar Organized a shramdan. The Pramukh, Panchayay Samiti Mr. Gauranga Dutta, Pradhan P R Singaram Up-Pradhan Subhash Mallick and PRI members alongwith several government departments, Institutions like , Police, Health, Panchayat , Zilla Parishad, Nehru Yuva Kendra, APWD, Forest, Agriculture ,Block Development, Revenue and other civil society organizations participated in Shramdan.
After the Shramdan an All –religion prayer organized at Multipurpose Hall Diglipur. School children and several government departments and institutions joined the prayer. Various religious heads participated in this programme. Floral tributes to the Mahatma were followed by a performance of his favorite bhajans Vaishnava Jan Raghupati Raghav by the school children.
An Essay competition was fallowed the bhajans. The participants were awarded by the Asst Commissioner Dr. Vivek Kumar. Speaking on this event he said that “Let us not only worship him, but learn from what he taught us. Gandhiji`s speeches are so relevant and enlightening that today we wish there were more like him.
