Port Blair, Mar 06: The Member of Parliament, Mr. B P Ray have taken up the issue of the illegal operation of the stone quarries from Baratang to Diglipur ( N & M Andaman District) by illegal collection of deposition of gravel/stone from Nallahs and rivers, illegal collection of stones/boulder from the sea shores, illegal collection of stones and boulders from the Forest area, and requested that quarries may be allotted in the respected areas from Baratang to Diglipur as par with the condition of the allotted quarries in South Andaman in a transparent manner, with the Chairman, Petition Committee, Lok Sabha on 01 December 2011.
In this connection, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Mullapalli Ramachandran has now informed Mr. Ray that various steps have been taken by the UT Administration in this regard viz the Revenue Authorities of the area have been instructed to check activities of illegal quarrying/transporting of stone material in their respective jurisdiction; Permission has been granted for renewal of 12 existing quarries allotted to APWD/ALHW and PRIs under North & Middle Andaman District for a period up to 30-6-2012 and Draft A & N Islands Mines & Minor Rules what will govern the quarrying rights in theIslandare under finalization.
In the interim, to tackle the shortage of quarry products, it has been decided by the Administration to allot additional quarries to Government Department, PRIs/Executive agencies of Defence projects etc
