Port Blair, July 03: It is the tradition in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to count the contributions of Bureaucrats and Administrators only after his departure. This happened in case of Mr. Vokkam Purushotamman and Prof. Ram Kapse.
The working style of Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh, attracted a lot of criticism in local media but there are many sectors, in which he has done better than any other Lt. Governors in Past.
For example, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh will be known as an Administrator, who had sanctioned maximum number of relief and compensations. This was not done only on request of Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, but also on request of the MP and also on request of Media units and prominent citizens. Mostly importantly, the funds were released for the needy without any delay or tiring paper works but after proper scrutiny by the DC office.
Only because of release of such financial assistance, treatment of many children of these Islands like Master Shohiab, Master Faizal, Master Suman Das, Master Jitish Mistry, Master M. Yogesh and baby H. Wingslee Joseph were possible.
Not only this the Lt. Governor had also sanctioned financial assistance for many others like Mrs. Bonifes Ekka; Smt Retah Bibi; Mr. P. Aboobaker; Mr. Kumud Ranjan Samaddar; Master M. Yogesh; Mr. T. Appa Rao; Mr. P. Korlaiah, etc. The list is countless and Islanders are really grateful to the Lt. Governor for his such noble gesture.
Another crucial contribution of this Lt. Governor was to set up a system of asking clarification from every department about media reports, which are nothing but the voice of general public. During his tenure Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh has made most of the department directly answerable to public and hence we could see clarifications, counter clarifications regarding different crucial issues after media report.
Many issues which are for the benefit of public and highlighted by media, were immediately taken up by the Lt. Governor, which no other past Lt. Governor could do.
There are many other plus points which we are highlighting under separate heading.
Andaman Sheekha always remained critical about wrong policies and working style of Administration, as media’s duty is to highlight the shortcomings of the Administration, but there is a need to laud the positive sides too.
During the last six and half years, it was easy to reach to the Lt. Governor, with crucial issues, thorough media, which was missing during the tenure of many other Lt. Governor’s in past.
According to reports the Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh will be leaving these Islands on 6th or 7th July but he will take back with him the blessing of those needy persons and social workers who have seen how promptly Raj Niwas had released money for them, when there was nobody else to help them.
This soft and kind side of Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh will be always remembered by Islanders. You will be missed Lt. Governor. Good Bye.
