Diglipur, Apr 09: Two road accidents today rocked entire Diglipur Island. In the first accident, which occurred at Keralapuram an Ambulance of Indian Coast Guard collided with a Hero Honda Splender bike. On the bike two forest Guards, Mr. K R Ganesh and Abhiskek, were going on duty to attend Operation “Tat Suraksha”. They were rushing to reach Aerial Bay.
At Keralapuram near a sharp turning a Savari vehicle, which they were following from long distance, gave way to a Coast Guard Ambulance, coming from the opposite direction. The bikers thought that the Savari vehicle is giving passage to them. While overtaking both Ambulance and the Bike came face to face and collided head on.
Eye witnesses say that the biker K. R. Ganesh, was not wearing the helmet but was holding it in one hand. K R Ganesh sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted by Pawan Hans Helicopter to Port Blair. The pillion rider was admitted at CHC Diglipur with various injuries and said to be out of danger now.
In the evening at about 3pm another accident took place at Ganna Dabla, Kalighat Range, where a Maruti Alto flew off the road and fell into a road side ditch. The Alto was driven by Mr. Dinesh Das, a travel agent from RGT Road, Port Blair. He was coming towards Diglipur along with his wife and other relatives, which includes a child of 2 years and 8 months.
According to Mr. Dinesh Das, a lady came infront of his car and showed hand to stop the car and when he did, he lost control over the car.
All the passengers inside the car suffered minor and major injuries and were rushed to CHC Diglipur. One passenger sustained serious injuries on the neck and his condition is very serious. Surgeon who arrived from Mayabunder Hospital was performing operation, when last report poured in.
