Diglipur, Apr 04: Though the District Administration is able to cordon off the massive Forest Fire of Diglipur Island from nearby villages but in deep Forest areas, the Fire is still spreading wildly.
“In deep Forest the Fire is still spreading but towards villages we have totally controlled the fire. Using excavators we have totally cordoned off the fire. Out of nearly 26 families living in the Forest Area, none of them have been evacuated,” Dr. Vivek Kumar the Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur Island told ‘Andaman Sheekha’ today.
According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman also arrived at Diglipur today to inspect the fire fighting works, which is being carried out by Fire Brigade, local police, villagers and Forest Department of A & N Islands.
“We are not sure about the exact area, which have been destroyed by the Forest Fire as the Forest Department hasn’t provided any figure yet. The fire is between three villages viz Ganesh Nagar, Kanti Nagar and Gandhi Nagar,” Dr. Kumar added.
When asked about the reasons behind the Forest Fire, the Assistant Commissioner said that the Administration suspect that the fire was man-made.
Meanwhile, massive Bush Fire has also been reported from Cherian Nallah and Keralapuram villages of Diglipur Islands, where staffs of Fire Brigade, Coast Guard and Andaman and Nicobar Command are still fighting fire.
