Diglipur, Apr 03: A major Forest fire has been reported from Gandhi Nagar area of Diglipur Island on 2nd April night. The matter was reported to the Assistant Commissioner of Digipur Island by the Pradhan of the area Mrs. Kuku Rani Paul.
To control the massive fire immediately Disaster Control Meeting was conducted at Diglipur which was attended by Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, Dr. Vivek Kumar, DFO Dr. Dinesh Kannan, SHO Mr. Joju, Assistant Engineer APWD Mr. Siddappa and officials of CHC Diglipur.
At 7 am this morning, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur left to the Gandhi Nagar to control the situation, as per the directions received from Deputy Commissioner, N & M Andaman.
Meanwhile a control room has also been set up in this regard, which will be controlled round the clock by Mr. Abdul Gafoor. The phone number of the control room is 272240 & 271888.
All the Revenue Inspector, Patwaries and Settlement staffs alongwith their subordinate of Diglipur Sub Division were also asked not to leave the office without permission from the in-charge of Control Room.
According to reports the fire is fast spreading over an area of about 18-20 Acres. Altogether 26 families affected due to this major fire.
According to reports, total 6 No excavators have been pressed into the service. However, due to the remoteness of the area (have to reach Bahadur Tikry about 23 Km. Then about 7 km jungle walk) these excavators could reach to the site only by this evening. Now the District Administration is planning to cordon off the area by creating a barrier to cross the fire.
Meanwhile, the Pradhan Gandhi Nagar Smti. Kuku Rani Paul complained to the AC that she indeed complained to the DFO about the fire on Saturday 30th March but they never bothered. According to her only after her complaint to the Asst. Commissioner yesterday night, the DFO sent a team comprising a ranger and other staff went to the area affected.
The DFO instructed the inhabitants to evict the Villages as soon as possible but they refused to do so. Then the Asst. Commissioner assured them to protect their houses.
The Asst. Commissioner has instructed the Forest Dept to transport 500 Ltrs of HSD oil for the use of rescue vehicles used for Disaster Management in connection with the fire accident.
Meanwhile, another major bush fire accident occurred at Cherian Nallah, Keralapuram, Diglipur at 2 PM today. Which was successfully controlled by the two water tenders of Fire Service and One Water tender from Indian Coast Guard after 6 hours of fire fighting. Both the Fire accidents are being monitored were Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Kumar I.A.S.
