Sri Vijaya Puram, Mar 16: The Primary Chess Utsav (PCU), a Block Level Chess Tournament organized by the Sports Section, Directorate of Education, in collaboration with DEO South Andaman, was successfully conducted today at GSSS Mohanpura. The event provided a grand platform for young chess enthusiasts from various Government Primary Schools to showcase their talent.
The tournament was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Boby Gomez, Senior Accounts Officer, Directorate of Education, and Mr. V. Venkadeshan, AAO, Directorate of Education, Sri Vijayapuram, with the ceremonial first move on the top board, marking the commencement of the event.
The competition followed a rapid format, with separate categories for boys and girls. Demonstrating exceptional skill and strategy, S. Bhavishya of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Aberdeen, remained unbeaten and secured the champion’s title in the girls’ category. M. Sanjana of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Girls and D. Ishika of GSSS Bathubasti clinched the second and third positions, respectively.
In the boys’ category, Reshan Mondal of Govt. Primary School, Krishnanagar 6.5 dominated the games to claim the first position. T. Gaurav of Govt. Middle School, Haddo (Laltha Ground) and Salina Akhil of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Aberdeen, secured the second and third places, respectively.
The top three players were awarded with trophies and certificates by Mr. Mohd Irshad Ahmed, Assistant Director (PE/Sports), Department of Education, Sri Vijayapuram. In his address, he praised the young players for their remarkable enthusiasm, strategic thinking, and competitive spirit, emphasizing the importance of chess in sharpening cognitive abilities and fostering discipline.
The Primary Chess Utsav (PCU) reflects the growing chess culture in the islands, providing a platform for young minds to engage, compete, and excel. This initiative not only nurtures critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also instills a spirit of resilience and discipline among young minds.
