Diglipur, February 20: Diglipur PRI Members’ dharna got a fillip with the active participation of N & M Andaman District Cooperative Union Ltd. in the agitation today.
As per report, the dharna started as per the proposed plan of the elected Members of the PRIs, Diglipur in the morning hours as usual in the same venue today.
However, it was seen the dharna getting a tremendous boost when Mr. Rama Rao, General Secretary, N & M Andaman District Cooperative Union Ltd. took the mike and reportedly started lashing out at the Administration. He said that the current limits/restrictions on Work Orders given by the Gram Panchayat to Co-operative societies are directly hitting the income sources of the unemployed youths who earlier used to engage themselves in the works in their respective cooperative societies and earn the livelihood for their families. But, the A & N Administration’s restriction on issuing work orders to the Co-operative societies by Panchayats has created a great anxiety among the unemployed youths as their source of income has reportedly ceased, he claimed. On the other hand, Venkaiah Naidu, former Union Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development and Information & Broadcasting in the Modi Cabinet reportedly had given an extra emphasis on the reinforcement of the Co-operative Societies across India, and the former Union Minister had allocated a great amount of fund for the benefit of Co-operatives, but the General Secretary of Union doesn’t reportedly comprehend what prevents the administration from strengthening the cooperative societies in Andamans, he inquired. The condition of the stakeholders of the cooperative societies are worst hit due to the highhanded and myopic attitude of the administration, Mr. Rao decried. In his virulent attack on the administration, Mr. Rao said that the administration has reportedly failed to efficiently deliver in every sector- be it road, water, electricity or health; no department is reportedly delivering its services properly to the people of A & N Islands, he alleged. There are villages under Digilupur Tehsil where water is being supplied after four days that too by water-tankers in limited volume; a building has been constructed in the name of a Sub-District Hospital in Diglipur, but its inauguration seems to be a distant dream, he decried.
Earlier, Shri Madhai Murshid, a veteran Congress Leader and Shri Pradip Das, ZPM, R.K. Gram Constituency reportedly came down heavily on the administration and raised their issues vehemently.
The dharna ended in the afternoon and the PRI Members then came out in a group and who were seen visiting shops and business establishments in Diglipur with the request to join the “Chakka Jam” which they are going to do tomorrow and they also reportedly requested the shopkeepers to keep their shops closed tomorrow as they have also called for Diglipur Bandh next day and support the cause, the report said.
