Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 18: Mr. BishnuPada Ray, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has expressed serious concerns regarding the persistent network failures and poor connectivity issues faced by residents across North & Middle Andaman and other rural areas of the Islands, despite the installation of BSNL towers.
During his last tour to North & Middle Andaman, the MP was approached by several residents who highlighted the severe challenges they face due to unreliable BSNL network services. Even in Diglipur, one of the mainareas, proper network coverage remains unavailable. The MP personally experienced the connectivity issues using his BSNL mobile number and emphasized that such deficiencies severely impact residents’ access to essential digital services.
“With the implementation of Digital India, seamless network connectivity is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The inefficiency of BSNL, A&N Telecom circle in ensuring uninterrupted service is causing immense hardship for the public, especially in rural and remote areas,” the MP stated.
Despite the government’s continuous efforts to enhance digital connectivity, the desired level of service from BSNL has not been achieved in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The MP pointed out that this reflects serious lapses in supervision and a negligent approach by BSNL authorities.
In light of these issues, the MP has urged the Chief General Manager of A&N Telecom Circle, BSNL, to conduct an immediate review of BSNL’s network coverage in all uncovered and poorly connected areas. Furthermore, the MP has called for urgent corrective measures and directed that Divisional and Sub-Divisional Officers of BSNL posted in rural areas of North & Middle Andaman, as well as the Nicobar and South Andaman districts, take immediate action to resolve these issues.
