Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 30: The escalating traffic congestion during the Sunday Market at Junglighat has become a major concern, prompting Councillor Amar Devi (Ward No. 07) to write to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, seeking urgent intervention.
In her letter, Councillor Amar Devi highlighted that small-scale hawkers selling vegetables and fruits along the stretch from Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Junglighat, to the Junglighat Graveyard are causing massive traffic jams. The situation worsens as customers crowd the area, leaving the road completely blocked, making it nearly impossible for vehicles to pass through. She emphasized that if a funeral procession needs to pass, it becomes extremely difficult to transport the body to the graveyard.
To address the issue, she suggested Relocating the Sunday Market to the vacant government quarters in Junglighat that are no longer in use.
She also suggested dividing the market into two locations, such as ITF Ground, to ease congestion while still ensuring public access to affordable produce.
The councillor pointed out that this matter has already been discussed on social media, with many citizens advocating for designated spaces for small-scale vendors. She urged the administration to take immediate action to clear the road and ensure smooth transportation during Sunday Market hours.
