Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 17: In the spirit of civic engagement and creating mass awareness among Islanders about the importance of wetland conservation and management, Andaman Law College, under the guidance of Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal (i/c), collaborated with the Department of Environment & Forests, Sri Vijaya Puram in organizing ‘Save Wetlands Campaign-2025’. This event was held as part of World Wetland Day which is celebrated globally on February 2nd every year.
The event commenced with Shri Shivendra, Range Officer, addressing the students and staff on the importance of wetlands in ecological conservation and the menace of plastic pollution. This was followed by the Wetland-Mitra-Pledge swearing ceremony.
Students and staff were divided into two groups. One group conducted an awareness program among local communities, distributing pamphlets and sensitizing people about waste management. The second group, with the support of officials and volunteers from the Gram Panchayat, undertook a waste collection drive along the Sippighat area.
The officials, staff, students, and volunteers enthusiastically participated in both endeavors, creating a massive awareness program and waste collection drive.
