Diglipur, January 02: The commuting woes of the residents of Nishchintapur village coming under Gram Panchayat Kalighat, Tehsil Diglipur have been plaguing the villagers of this outlying area since their settlement.
According to information, the denizens of Nishchintapur are reportedly facing severe commuting woes owing to non-existence of roads, bridge, transport facilities etc. and there is no one to rescue them from this grievous situation, they lamented.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, the villagers informed that one woman of Ward No. 09, Nishchintapur village Smti. Shibani Sarkar, W/o Shri Sushanta Roy was badly bitten by a village dog in the evening of 29th December 2024. Since the dog-bite was severe, it prompted an immediate medical attention. As such, the woman was carried in a traditional village-made stretcher (made with cloth & bamboo) by two villagers accompanied by others to the PHC Kalighat at night as the village lacks a road and bridge over the Kalighat Creek.
They transported her in that traditional village-made stretcher through the bumpy & muddy track through the forest and then wading through mangrove they reached a spot and then they crossed the 1.5 mtr width wooden footbridge over the Kalighat Creek built by the Forest Dept. Ultimately, they arrived at Kalighat Bazaar from where she was taken to the PHC Kalighat after the perilous journey, they rued.
Though Smti. Shibani Sarkar was discharged from the PHC Kalighat on the request of her relatives, she has been visiting PHC Kalighat for her check-up and dressing her wounds from one her relatives’ house at Kalighat, as she is not in a condition to make to and fro movement from her house at Nishchintapur village to PHC Kalighat and vice versa only due to non-existence of a bridge over the creek of Kalighat, the decried.
The residents of this remote area have once again urged the A & N Administration to address the issue and resolve it on priority, they further informed.
