Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 30: The Delegate Session of the Andaman & Nicobar State Conference of Communist Party of India (Marxist) was held on 29th December, 2024 at Atul Smriti Samiti (Bengali Club), Port Blair with the hoisting of Party flag by senior leader B. Chandrachoodan. Delegates and Observers paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column. Condolence resolution was moved by Rahul Dev Mridha and one minute silence was observed in memory of those who passed away since last State Conference held on 27th March, 2022. Presidium consisting of D. Laxman Rao, Ramjeeban Sarkar and Nikunjo Biswas was elected to conduct the proceedings of the Delegate Session. Chairman Reception Committee B. Chandrachoodan welcomed the Delegates & Observers and leaders attending the Conference.
Dr Sujan Chakraborty, Ex-MP and Central Committee Member inaugurated the Delegate Session. Addressing the Session, he said that a person who was rejected by the people four years back has now become President again in United States of America. He said that Donald Trump is the most autocratic and pro-rich person. He said that in India, Narendra Modi came to power third time even though BJP lost more than 60 seats compared to the Lok Sabha election of 2019. He said that during the last 78 years of our independence, unemployment is increasing rapidly, poor have become poorer. Referring to the ongoing agitation by farmers, he said that the farmers are sitting on the roads for the last one year and the central government does not speak to the farmers. He said that the country is being governed in a most fascistic manner. He demanded establishment of a Legislative Assembly on the Pondicherry model for the union territory of A&N Islands in order to end bureaucratic rule in the islands.
D. Ayyappan, Secretary, A & N State Organising Committee presented the Political-Organisational Report containing the political situation in the country and in the islands and also the functioning of the CPI (M) for the period from last State Conference held in March, 2022. Delegates from different parts of the islands participated in the discussion on the Report which was later on adopted unanimously. P. Sathyapal, Finance Incharge presented the Audited accounts of the Party for the last three years. Resolutions on a number issue were discussed and adopted in the Conference.
Addressing the Delegate Session, G. Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Member of the Party expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the Party in these islands and said that the Party has made a good impact among the islanders due to the struggles conducted by the party. He called upon the party leaders and workers to continue to work hard to expand the party base in the union territory. He emphasized the need to strengthen Party Committees at all levels in the islands. He said that in line with the 23rd Party Congress held in Kannur, Kerala in April, 2022, which set out the task to increase the independent struggle of the party, the Party is organizing struggles on a number of local issues affecting the people as a whole. He said that the NDA government has failed to complete the construction of the 350 KM NH4 in the islands during the last nearly ten years. He called upon the Delegates to prepare the party to take up the task of mobilizing the people to fight against the anti-people policies being pursued by the NDA government in the country.
The Delegate Session adopted a document -Task for the Next 3 Years – with a view to strengthen the CPI (M) in these islands. SP Kalairajan, Secretary, Reception Committee proposed vote of thanks. The 2-day State Conference ended with the election of a new State Organising Committee.
