Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 30: Revenue Officials of the District Administration, South Andaman, received specialized training during a one-day Regional Level Pollution Response Exercise conducted by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The exercise, designed to enhance the preparedness, coordination and emphasized the critical role of Revenue officials in managing marine pollution incidents effectively.
The event took place near the Science Centre and the Jetty area, combining practical demonstrations and theoretical training to prepare participants for real-world challenges. A key highlight of the initiative was the hands-on training session aboard the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Vijit, where Revenue officials were equipped with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to tackle oil spills and mitigate their environmental impact effectively.
The exercise also showcased the deployment of specialized pollution response equipment and logistics in simulated scenarios, offering officials invaluable exposure to real-time emergency management practices. These activities underscored the importance of swift and coordinated actions in minimizing environmental damage during such incidents.
The day concluded with a comprehensive briefing on oil spill prevention and preparedness. Experts provided insights into advanced techniques, demonstrated state-of-the-art equipment for oil spill containment and recovery, and emphasized on the marine pollution emergencies.
This joint initiative by the District Administration, South Andaman and Indian Coast Guard underscores its commitment to protecting the marine environment while strengthening inter-agency collaboration.
