Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 22: A two days Training Programme on PGS Certification was organized by Regional Council of Organic & Natural Farming, Bhubaneswar in association with the Department of Agriculture, A & N Islands. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Jagat Singh, Regional Director, RCONF, Bhubaneswar in the presence of Mr. Ramesh Kumar, Joint Director (Agri) HQ and Mr. S R Ingle, Assistant Director, RCONF, Bhubaneswar.
The Regional Director, Mr. Jagat Singh explained about the importance and potentialities of organic and natural farming. He further spoke about how to start organic farming in context to soil water conservation and on farm input management. The Joint Director (Agri) HQ explained about the potential and scope of organic farming in A & N Islands and also highlighted the problems faced by the farmers.
Mr. S R Ingle, Assistant Director, RCONF, Bhubaneswar informed on PGS certification and emphasized the potential horticultural crops that can be tapped under PGS certification like spices and coconut and large area can be brought under organic cultivation with the help of UT Govt. and it will help farmer to bring back the land under organic cultivation.
This programme was organized at Directorate of Agriculture, Sri Vijaya Puram on Dec.16 & 17, 2024, in which, Officers from Department of Agriculture, Scientists from ICAR, CIARI and progressive farmers participated.
