Port Blair, Dec 20: A delegation of the Andaman & Nicobar Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union (CITU) led its President Smt Geeta Devi met the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration and discussed with him various issues of the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers working in these islands. The Union representatives informed the Chief Secretary that their honorarium is being delayed considerably without any reason. The Union had also informed the Chief Secretary that room rent of the rooms rented for the Anganwadi Centers are not being released by the Social Welfare Department in time. The Union delegation also urged the Chief Secretary to extend the benefit of Gratuity to the retiring Anganwadi Workers & Helpers in view of the Supreme Court order on the issue. The Union also brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary the non-payment of fees for various surveys conducted by the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers. The Chief Secretary gave a patient hearing and assured the Union delegation that their demands will be considered favourably.
The other members of the delegation were R. Anbukkarsi, General Secretary and Fulcaria Dung Dung, Treasurer of the Union.
