Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 20: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency participated in the 16th APG-Global Business Conclave organized by Apna Parivar Global today at Sri Vijaya Puram as the chief guest. A congregation of more than 50 major potential investors representing Hospitality, Tourism, Infra, Education, Health, Power, Construction Industries etc. attended and conveyed keen interest in participating in growth and development story of A&N Islands, towards attainment of Viksit Bharat objective.
The Lt. Governor in his key note address, briefed the stakeholders on a slew of investment opportunities opening up in Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the immediate future viz. International Container Transhipment Terminal, Deep Water Port at Atlanta Bay, 2 New Greenfield Airports, Sea-Plane Operations, Large capacity Helicopter Fleet, Medicity, Tourism, Hospitality, Infra Projects and assured that all investments will be welcomed & felicitated on a level playing field, transparent and competitive bidding processes, in PPP mode.
The Lt. Governor also informed the delegates about the projects which have come up in the last 6-7 years, which include the VSI Terminal building which has been made operational and also the network connectivity has improved manifold with laying of CANI project with 200 Gbps connectivity.
The Lt. Governor disclosed that the Great Nicobar International Container project is in final stages and only cabinet approval is awaited which is expected in the coming months after which tendering process will start. All the codal activities for ICTT project have been completed viz. consultancy, detail project report, environment impact assessment, etc and this project is on the verge of execution, he said. The container handling capacity will be of 15.5 Million TEUs and this project will become India’s second largest container handling capacity.
The Lt. Governor further stated that two new Greenfield Airports have been approved for A&N Islands, one each at Sri Vijaya Puram and Great Nicobar Island with 2 runways. Initially, flights operation will start from one runway and as per the load factor, the second runway will also be operationalised. The construction, land acquisition will be done keeping in mind to make 2 runways operational. These Greenfield Airports have been planned with world class facilities and it will be executed in PPP mode.
Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the Founder Chairman ‘Apna Pariwar Global’ (APG), Dr. Ram Kailash Gupta informed that APG acts as a catalyst in the promotion of industry, trade and entrepreneurship. He also expressed the desire to contribute in fields such as distance learning, healthcare, online MSMEs and many more in A&N Islands.
