Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 16: The General Body Meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar Anganwadi Workers & Helpers was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali on 14th November, 2024. Geeta Devi, President of the Union presided over the meeting. Fulcaria Dung Dung, Treasurer welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the meeting, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee called upon all the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers working in the Anganwadies of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to strengthen the A & N Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union (CITU), in order to conduct movements for their legitimate demands of minimum wages, gratuity, leave, etc. He drew the attention of the participants to the valiant struggle being conducted by the CITU-affiliated Anganwadi unions in various parts of the country with their demands and asked the Anganwadi functionaries in the islands to join the country-wide agitations of the Anganwadi Workers.
Addressing the gathering, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee said that the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers should get reasonable wages to sustain as they are forced to work in the Anganwadies throughout the day daily and to carry out other works connected with various government welfare schemes. Citing various court orders, he said that these workers are entitled to get the Gratuity and minimum wages and blamed the BJP-led central government for denying the same to the Anganwadi Workers & Helpers.
M. Yugander, Secretary, CITU State Committee also addressed the meeting. R. Surendran Pillai, President, P. Sathyapal and SP Kalairajan, Secretaries of CITU State Committee were also present on the occasion.
The meeting discussed various issues concerning the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. After discussion, the general body meeting chalked out various agitational programmes, etc. in the islands on the demands for gratuity, increase in the honorarium, minimum wages, leave, timely payment of honorarium, etc.
Earlier in the meeting, R. Anbukkarsi, General Secretary presented a brief report on the functioning of the Union. A large number of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers of Port Blair and rural South Andaman attended the meeting.
