Baratang, Dec. 12: The normal life of the people of Baratang is being severely paralysed with the erratic power supply in the areas.
According to information, there are two power generator sets on hire basis under a Delhi based company and both the generators are reportedly under repair. Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. R. Alager Swamy, Zilla Parishad Member, Baratang Constituency, said that owing to the defunct condition of the power generator sets, people of entire Baratang region are suffering; they are being reportedly given false assurances by the concerned officials that the generator sets would be set right soon, but generator sets have not been still put to a working condition, and the people of Baratang are facing the wrath of the situation, he alleged.
At present power is being supplied/extended from Rangat Power House but the power supply is not reportedly sufficient, as the power in transit is consumed in Bakultala and Kadamtala and when power reaches Baratang it is smidgen in strength, and as a result of which household appliances such refrigerator, washing machines, television etc were damaged, Mr. Alager claimed.
As a ZPM of Baratang constituency, Mr. Alager wants that a 750 KVA generator Set is installed for sufficient power supply for Baratang and which may also be used in emergency situations like this, the ZPM demanded. But as of now, since the pvt. Company hasn’t repaired the generator sets in time; the residents of this Baratang region are facing severe hardships, he said. And if the gen sets are not repaired soon, the people of this region would be left with no other options but to resort to mount an agitation, Mr. Swamy said.
The ZPM further reportedly gave seven days’ ultimatum for setting the power generator sets right and an uninterrupted power supply in Baratang region, and if it is not done so, he along with the locals of Baratang would go for a dharna which will be reportedly held right in front of the Office of the Electricity Office, Baratang, Mr. Alagar threatened.
