Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 11: Dr. J. Arockia Raj, National Member of the World Human Rights Protection Commission (WHRPC), has urged the administration to enforce strict compliance with public visiting hours across all government departments. He emphasized that Heads of Departments (HoDs) and Secretaries should dedicate these hours exclusively to addressing public grievances.
Raising concerns over the growing dissatisfaction among citizens, Dr. Arockia Raj pointed out that officials are often unavailable during designated visiting hours due to internal departmental engagements. He stressed that this defeats the purpose of public visiting hours, which are intended to facilitate direct interactions between citizens and officials for prompt grievance redressal and efficient service delivery.
“Public visiting hours are a vital opportunity for citizens to voice their issues. When these hours are misused for internal meetings or other work, it erodes trust in governance and silences many voices. I call upon the administration to issue clear directives mandating officials to prioritize public matters during these hours,” he said.
Dr. Arockia Raj’s statement reflects WHRPC’s commitment to safeguarding public rights and ensuring accessibility to government officials. He urged immediate action to institutionalize this practice across departments, promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
