Port Blair, Dec 05: Sports Authority of India (SAI), STC Sri Vijay Puram women rowing team won Silver Medals in the 44th Junior And 7th Inter State Challenger National Rowing Championship which was held at Pune Maharashtra on 05th December 2024 in the event category 2000 metre. The successful participants are Sneha Toppo and P. Alagammal.
The participants are residential trainnes of SAI Sri vijaya Puram (Port Blair) and are trained under able international medalist coaches, Arjuna awardee Jenil Krishnan, Justin J. Thomas And Manish Kr. Tiwari.
In the said competition, Himachal RFI team bagged gold medal, while Andman & Nicobar Islands defeated other bigger states like Mahasrashtra, Harayana, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala etc. The spectacular win also acted as qualifier for their participation in National Games set to take place in Uttarakhand from January’2025.
They both belong from humble family. Father of both the successful candidates are daily wage earners (mazdoor). They are residents of Bimlitan and Mannarghat respectively. It was difficult for their family to meet both ends. As a survival strategy, they were admitted to SAI residential training. They have proved with hardwork, all other obstacles can be crumbled. SAI team is elated with the win and hopes them to win medals in forthcoming National Games’2025, a press release issued by Debasmita Bal, Assistant Director, Sports Authority of India said here today.
