Port Blair, Dec 05: In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVGT) Jarawas and ensuring their active participation in the democratic process, a special program was organized at their hamlet for the issuance of fresh Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).
The Dr. Chandra Bhushan, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration personally visited the hamlet to oversee the process along with Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman and Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate, emphasizing the Administration’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.
As part of this significant effort, 19 Jarawas have been successfully enrolled in the voters list, marking an important milestone in integrating marginalized communities into the democratic framework. The initiative not only ensures the constitutional rights of these tribal members but also reflects a broader objective of fostering equality and inclusivity in the electoral process.
Such efforts underline the commitment of the A & N Administration to ensure that every eligible citizen, irrespective of their geographical or cultural background, has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and contribute to the nation’s democratic fabric.
