Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec 01: JS Virat, a Class VI student of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Lambaline and a promising chess player has become the first boy and second player from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, after R Kasthuri Bhai, to represent India at the prestigious international platform. He will compete in the 18th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024, in under 11 category scheduled to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 2 to 11, 2024.
This prestigious nine-day championship will feature competitions in three formats: Rapid, Classical (Standard), and Blitz, bringing together top players from approximately 30 Asian countries, including China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and the host nation, Thailand.
Representing India at this continental event is a remarkable milestone for J.S. Virat, offering him a unique platform to showcase his skills, gain invaluable international experience, and compete against some of the best young chess players in Asia.
