Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 29 : The District Administration of South Andaman has undertaken yet another resolute action against illegal encroachments, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to safeguarding public resources. In a series of meticulously executed operations at Mithakhari and Manglutan, encroachments on government land were successfully removed, restoring a total area of approximately 14,700 sqm to the government’s possession.
At Mithakhari, unauthorized fencing and a cross erected by nearby villagers were dismantled, reclaiming 600 sqm of land. Additionally, three other instances of encroachment were addressed wherein, fencing and plantations of banana and arecanut saplings on 100 sqm of government revenue land were cleared, unauthorized fencing covering 900 sqm of government land was removed and a GI sheet parking shed with a plinth area of 12 sqm was demolished.
Meanwhile, at Manglutan, encroachments done in the shape fencing, banana and arecanut plantations, were removed from land recorded under the Andaman Sea Food Cooperative Society situated at Manglutan and an area measuring 6,600 sqm have been reverted back to Govt khata. Over 200 trees planted on the encroached land were discarded, ensuring the area’s restoration. These actions follow previous successful eviction drives, culminating in the restoration of a cumulative 13,200 sqm of government land in Manglutan alone.
This decisive effort by the District Administration underscores its firm stance that public land is a collective asset that cannot be compromised under any circumstances. By restoring encroached land to its rightful purpose, the District Administration, South Andaman has sent a powerful and unambiguous message to the community.
