Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 29 : A tragic accident involving an STS bus occurred on November 15, 2024, near Budda Nallah, Tugapur, Mayabunder, resulting in the loss of two lives and severe injuries to 11 passengers. The victims were promptly evacuated by helicopter and boat to Port Blair for further medical treatment.
The emergency response received widespread praise for its efficiency and coordination. As per Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh of Mayabunder, Mr. Dilkush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, and Mr. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, arrived immediately at PHC Tugapur to oversee the situation. Medical teams, led by Dr. Alice Bwa (PHC Tugapur) and Dr. Christina (Dr. R.P. Hospital), provided critical care to the injured, demonstrating exemplary leadership and dedication.
Emergency response efforts were supported by Revenue Inspectors Ravi and Ajit, Patwaris, and local law enforcement. SHO Kanan, Inspector Grace, Sub-Inspector Meena, and the Rest Camp Outpost team played a vital role in managing the scene and saving lives. Villagers and local leaders also extended valuable support during the crisis.
Special appreciation was extended to Deputy Commissioner Dilkush Meena, IAS, for ensuring expedited post-mortem processes. His intervention enabled the early completion of procedures for Late Joel Tigga and Late P. Gurumurthy, allowing their families to conduct last rites promptly. Assistant Commissioner Ashish Joon’s timely action in facilitating the post-mortem process was also acknowledged.
Public appreciation poured in for the swift and compassionate response by the administration.
