Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 14: In a significant step toward addressing substance abuse among young students, the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an impactful awareness program on the “Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse” under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Ananda Marga School, Junglighat. This initiative was conducted with the support of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) and the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) (S/A) under the Directorate of Social Welfare, focusing on imparting early awareness and preventive strategies to primary-level students.
The program commenced with a comprehensive session led by Mrs. Anchamma, Project Assistant of NAPDDR, who emphasized the importance of a drug-free environment in schools and the responsibility of students to support one another in avoiding harmful substances. She also discussed practical strategies for students to steer clear of drugs and alcohol and encouraged them to reach out to peers in need, highlighting schools as fundamental places for gaining essential knowledge.
Dr. M.K. Mahato, Doctor from IRCA, further enriched the session by addressing the psychological and physical challenges faced by individuals grappling with addiction. He stressed the availability of the 112 helpline, a 24/7 service for counseling, support, and reporting any drug-related issues. He also extended his personal support by sharing his contact number, encouraging students and staff to seek assistance if they suspect any substance abuse cases in their surroundings.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Acarya Shantashu Bhananda Avadhut, Manager of the School who expressed gratitude to the Directorate of Social Welfare, the guest speakers, and all participants for their contributions to this vital awareness program.
