Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 14: 71 All India Cooperative Week is being celebrated in Andaman and Nicobar Island from 14th to 20th November 2024. The inaugural function of the cooperative week was held today (14/11/24) at Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union. Mr. Sudeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council was the chief guest and inaugurated the function by hoisting Cooperative Flag and lightening of lamp. In his inaugural speech he emphasized on good governance required among the societies and all the members of the society are responsible for achieving success of their society’s goals and training of the members. He further, informed that PBMC is implementing many government schemes which will be helpful for the SIIGS and members of the societies. He suggested that Cooperative Department and ANSCU should arrange certificate course for skill development programme for the society members and SIGS so that they can approach PBMC with the certificate for availing benefits of the Govt. schemes. He further mentioned that in the present day PBMC has proposed many developmental activities within the municipal area like establishment of a tunnel system for underwater aquariums, Malls, and a light fountain musical system, where many employment opportunities will be generated for SHGS and societies. He urges that Safai Mitras should be given respect whenever they approach the localities for maintaining better hygiene and cleanliness.
Mr. Rajesh Pal Govind, Councilor, ward No-18 said that RCS and ANSCU shall impart job oriented courses to SHGS and other Cooperative Institutions for income generation activities to create self employment and upliftment of their socio economic conditions in the society.
Mr. S Raju, DANICS, RCS said that cooperation is a good source of economic upliftment through a society. He gave a brief history of cooperative movement in the Islands and mentioned that before Independence there were 04 for registered cooperative societies and at present a total of 2227 registered cooperative societies and 47 PACS at village level are available for the benefits of rural masses. Further, he stated that Cooperative Dept. is having a dedicated team of officers to help the people to make new societies and its registration.
The second day programme will be held at Youth Club, Manglutan on 15/11/2024. Earlier Dr Nagesh Ram, Principal, Rajiv Gandhi Cooperative Training Centre welcomed the Chief guest, guest of honor and all the dignitaries, members of cooperative societies present, SHGs and participants. The function was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Anant Rao, Vice Chairman, ANSCU.
