Orientation Programme for Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and Blood Donation Camp by Red Ribbon Club of ANCOL at Andaman College

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 06: Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) organized an Orientation and Capacity Building programme for the youth of “Red Ribbon Club” (RRC) of Andaman College (ANCOL) on Prevention and Control of HIV & AIDS on 05th November 2024, more than 70 students were present for the orientation programme. On 06th November 2024, ANACS in co-ordination with Blood Center, G.B. Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Services, supported by Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of ANCOL organized a blood donation camp at Andaman College. Total 36 units of blood were donated by the RRC members.
The programme was organized under the leadership of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society. The programme and camp was organized with the support of Dr. Jochibed Vincent, Asst. Professor/ Nodal Officer (RRC), Head Dept of English, Andaman College (ANCOL), Sri Vijaya Puram.
Mr. Kaushik Kumar Halder AD (IEC) and Mr. Santosh Baghel, AD (Documentation) were the resource persons. Students were given information on the objectives of RRC and its roles and responsibilities in prevention and control of STI, HIV & AIDS including its transmission, prevention, and treatment. Additionally, interactive sessions and discussions were conducted to address common misconceptions and myths. The information was given through power point presentation.
The Blood Donation camp was facilitated by the Dr. Shilpa Vijay Sankhe, Medical Officer (Blood Bank), ANIIMS, Sri Vijaya Puram. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspect and importance of blood donation. The programme was an initiative to educate youth and encourage them to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles and also motivate them for voluntary blood donation and safe sexual behaviors.
The technical team from Blood Center, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units are screened for the transfusion transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility criteria.
Donors certificate were also distributed to the voluntary donors.
