Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 30: The Food Safety Department has taken swift action on receipt of an information regarding rat infestation of cakes and sweet items being exhibited for sale in a restaurant situated at Bathu Basthi, Sri Vijaya Puram. The Food Safety Officials conducted an inspection of the food business premises and noticed significant violations of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, Rules and Regulations 2011. Proper pest control measures were not carried out by the Food Business Operator as a result pest/rodent activities were found inside the food business premise.
Accordingly, u/s 32 of FSS Act, 2006, the food business premise was ordered to be closed with immediate effect and all food business activities were suspended immediately through the premises till further orders in the interest of public health.
Further adjudication of offence is under process against the food business operator. A special drive is also being undertaken during this festive season to ensure hygiene and quality of sweet and sweet meats to safeguard public health.
The Commissioner Food Safety, A&N Islands has directed all Food Business Operators to strictly adhere with the FSS Rules and Regulations made there under and also warned that violators shall be punished as per the provision of the Act.
