Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 27: The 29th meeting of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board was held on 24thOctober, 2024 in the Conference Hall of the Office of the Labour Commissioner, A & N Administration, Supply Line, Sri Vijay Puram under the Chairmanship of Dr. Anil Agarwal, Chairman, ANIBOCWWB/ Secretary (Labour& Employment), A & N Administration, wherein the Representative of the Secretary (RD)/Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Representative of the Chief Engineer, APWD, Representative of NHDCL, Representatives of Trade Unions and officials from the Office of Labour Commissioner attended the meeting. The Chairman of the Board welcomed the Members and updated the various status and developments of the Board and announced that Board is in process of extending benefits under PMJAY, PMJJBY & PMSBY Schemes for the registered construction workers of the Board. During the meeting, various issues relating to the extension of social security assistance to the registered construction workers of the Board were discussed and the Chairman of the Board emphasised the need to ensure the extension of benefits/assistance to the registered construction workers of the Board. The Chairman as well as representative of Employer and Trade Union also stressed the need to create awareness among the workers engaged in construction works at different sites of the Islands by way of conducting awareness camps by the officials of the Board at regular intervals.
After deliberations, the Board unanimously approved to release of Rs. 9.82Lakhs against 27claims preferred by the registered construction workers under prescribed Welfare Schemes (Death, Medical, Pension, Education and Maternity Assistance) and accordingly, the ANIBOCWWB shall initiate the process of disbursement with regard to all financial benefits/assistances through DBT mode. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board were constituted in the year 2009 with the purpose to provide various social security schemes to the registered construction workers. Presently, the Board is implementing 9 Welfare Schemes for the welfare of the registered construction workers.
